Darrera installs a high-performance 3R AWS100 weather station at the Canary Islands Maritime-Fisheries Vocational Training Institute

The new equipment allows the center to monitor environmental conditions in real time in the port area of Arrecife, on the east coast of Lanzarote, and to openly share the information with the nautical community and the general public through the Weathercloud online platform.

Founded in 1942, the Canary Islands Maritime-Fisheries Vocational Training Institute has a long history of training professionals in navigation, fishing, and maritime safety. By combining theory with practical experience in a real port environment, the new 3R AWS100 station proves to be a highly valuable tool, providing accurate meteorological data that enhances hands-on learning while also contributing to better planning of port activities.

The station has been strategically installed on the building’s rooftop, mounted on a tilting mast that allows easy access to the sensors and simplifies maintenance tasks. Designed to deliver maximum accuracy, reliability, and robustness even in marine environments, it is equipped with a complete set of instruments: a cup anemometer, wind vane, thermo-hygrometer housed in a 10-plate radiation shield, tipping bucket rain gauge with automatic emptying, barometer, and a second class pyranometer. The entire system operates autonomously on solar power, eliminating the need for an external electricity supply.

The datalogger stores data in its internal memory and transmits it via 4G. Using Weathercloud, the institute’s staff can remotely access real-time weather conditions, create customized charts, download daily, monthly, and annual reports in PDF format, and export the historical database in CSV for local analysis. Additionally, Weathercloud lets users set up alerts for adverse weather events and integrate the data into both the center’s website and a local display screen in the lobby.

At Darrera, we are particularly proud to provide innovative solutions that enhance education and enrich the practical training of future maritime professionals. With the addition of this station, the Canary Islands Maritime-Fisheries Vocational Training Institute takes a significant step forward, further establishing itself as a benchmark in modern maritime education.
