The new equipment enhances the municipality’s ability to access accurate, real-time weather information in the urban area, becoming a key tool for environmental monitoring, municipal management, and public information services.
The technical team from Darrera has carried out the installation and commissioning of the station on the roof of the Town Hall building, using a foldable tower that facilitates periodic maintenance tasks. The system operates fully autonomously thanks to solar power and is equipped with high-precision sensors that measure key meteorological parameters, including wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, rainfall, atmospheric pressure, solar radiation, and UV radiation. In addition, the station calculates a range of derived parameters such as dew point, wind chill, heat index, sunshine hours, evapotranspiration, and heating and cooling degree days, providing a comprehensive and detailed overview of environmental conditions in l’Aldea.
Wind speed and rainfall sensors have been calibrated and certified by an ENAC-accredited official laboratory, ensuring maximum reliability of the recorded data. This traceability allows the Town Council to rely on robust, verifiable meteorological information for technical reporting and decision-making processes, particularly in situations involving adverse weather conditions such as strong winds or heavy rainfall.
The WeatherLink Live data acquisition system collects information from the sensors and transmits it to the Weathercloud global weather network via an Ethernet connection, enabling remote monitoring and management from any device, including computers, tablets, and smartphones.
The Weathercloud online platform provides municipal technical staff with a set of advanced tools that enable real-time consultation of weather conditions, the generation of custom graphs, and the download of daily, monthly, and annual reports in PDF format. It also allows the configuration of alerts and the export of data in CSV format for local analysis, among other features. This immediate access to information is particularly valuable for Civil Protection services as well as for the general public.
With the addition of this new weather station, the Town Council of l’Aldea, in collaboration with Darrera, reinforces its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and smart territorial management. The project provides the municipality with an essential tool for continuous environmental monitoring, as well as the generation of a historical database that will support the analysis of local climate evolution over time.
