The unit records the main meteorological parameters and transmits the information via 4G to the Weathercloud online platform for municipalities, enabling remote access for both City Council staff and the general public.
The station has been installed on a 5-meter tilting tower at Aiguamoll de la Bóbila, a wetland of significant ecological and educational value located 500 meters south of the municipality. This natural area is home to a rich biodiversity of birds, reptiles, and amphibians, making it an ideal location for weather observation and climate studies.
The Vantage Pro2 Plus station operates fully autonomously thanks to its solar power system and is equipped with precision sensors to measure wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, precipitation, atmospheric pressure, solar radiation, and UV radiation. Additionally, it calculates various derived parameters, such as dew point, wind chill, heat index, sunshine hours, evapotranspiration, and heating/cooling degree days. The anemometer and rain gauge have been calibrated by an ENAC-accredited laboratory, allowing the local government to issue official reports on wind and precipitation.
The EnviroMonitor 4G communication system equipped with the station enables real-time data transmission to the Weathercloud platform for municipalities, offering remote access from any computer, tablet, or smartphone. The residents of Santpedor can now check the current weather conditions in real time, view local weather forecasts for the next 6 days, download weather reports in PDF, and generate evolution graphs from the historical database, which is fully open to the public.
With this installation, Santpedor joins the growing network of municipalities committed to sharing accurate and accessible local weather information, improving preparedness for atmospheric phenomena, and promoting knowledge of the natural environment.
