Darrera has successfully completed the installation and commissioning of a new high-performance weather station at the northern entrance of the Port of Barcelona, as well as the relocation and modernization of an existing station at the liquid bulk terminal, further strengthening the meteorological observation network of the Barcelona Port Authority.
The Barcelona Port Authority continues to enhance its environmental monitoring infrastructure with the installation of a new high-performance weather station at the port’s northern entrance and the relocation and modernization of an existing station at the liquid bulk terminal. Both projects, carried out by Darrera, provide accurate, real-time meteorological data to support port operations and enhance safety.
The new station has been installed on the breakwater at the port’s northern entrance and is mounted on a 10-meter tilting mast with guy wires. This configuration facilitates routine maintenance while providing excellent stability in the demanding conditions of the marine environment. The station is equipped with a high-precision RM Young wind monitor for measuring wind speed and direction, a Campbell Scientific datalogger for data acquisition and storage, a fully autonomous solar power system, and a 4G router that enables direct communication with the Barcelona Port Authority’s control center.
At the liquid bulk terminal, the project involved the relocation and modernization of an existing weather station. Following the removal of the previous structure, a new 10-meter self-supporting tower was erected while retaining the original datalogger and integrating new high-performance meteorological sensors. The station communicates remotely via the Barcelona Port Authority’s Ethernet network, ensuring seamless integration with the port’s monitoring and control systems.
