Badalona has a new high-performance municipal weather station supplied and installed by Darrera

The station installed at the El Viver municipal building is the first of a project that includes another 2 units at the Torre Mena civic centre and the Salvador Espriu school. The local government and the residents can now check both the current weather conditions in real time and the 6-day local weather forecast through the Weathercloud online platform.

Badalona joins the growing network of municipalities that have an automatic weather station to record and share their weather data with citizens. The new 3R AWS100 high-performance weather station installed by Darrera at El Viver is powered by solar energy for fully autonomous operation based on renewable energies and is equipped with precision sensors for measuring wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, precipitation and atmospheric pressure.

The station has been installed on a 3-meter-high tripod made of anodized aluminium to ensure maximum resistance to weathering, with the rain gauge installed separately at 1.5 meters from the ground, in accordance with the recommendations of the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat), the Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

The weather data recorded by the station is sent via 4G to the Weathercloud online platform, allowing anyone to check it remotely and in real time. In addition, the information is stored in a historical database that will help improve knowledge of the evolution of the climate in the municipality over the years.
